About Hong Kong Children's Musical Theatre

Hong Kong Children¡¦s Musical Theatre Ltd (HKCMT) was set up in 1998 and by Ada Ying Ki Wong JP as Chair of the Board and Justine Woo as Artistic Director. HKCMT has focused on providing performing arts training to children and teenagers aged 2 to 18, with a view to building up their confidence, communication skills, creativity and sense of cooperation. In order to develop their knowledge and performing skill of musical, our courses emphasis the mixture of performing elements such as theatrical acting, vocal singing and choreography. In addition, the company also devoted to organize and produce a series of musical performance, school tours and educational seminars for the public. It is beneficial for children to establish self-confident through discovering and affirming their potential ability and talent in the participation of arts.

Artistic Director and Founder - Ms Justine Woo

Justine obtained her Advanced Diploma in Acting and Bachelor Degree of Fine Arts in Directing from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

She then joined Chung Ying Theatre Company, Prospects Theatre Company and Bestreben Drama Association and performed in various large-scale musical theatre performances such as Snow Wolf Lake and Really Gaoxiao Series. She became a firm believer in the power of theatre education for children and teenagers when she worked as guest lecturer at the Open University of Hong Kong, drama tutor at the Chinese University, Kwun Tong Theatre Company and various primary and secondary schools. She is currently appointed as an adjudicator of the Drama Festival organized by the Education Bureau.

In 1998, Justine co-founded HKCMT as the first provider of professional musical theatre training for children and teenagers. She has written and directed productions of HKCMT including Le Petit Prince, The Story of His Life, Mr. Anderson, Princess Luna, Come from Ba Ba¡¦s Prince, The Magical Spell and Flying Smarty Prince. She has visited New York, London and the Mainland for professional cultural exchange and directed the Walking in the Air Concert in Beijing.
 

Musical Programs

With Combination of acting, dancing and singing, CMT¡¦s musical programs are designed to foster children¡¦s self-confidence, creativity, communication skills and co-awareness. Courses are classified according to the age of member in order to provide appropriate training.

Starkids Baby (For aged 2-3)
The program is taught by professional theatrical instructor, with parents accompanied to foster children¡¦s initiative, musicality and coordination of rhythmic movement.

Pre-starkids (For aged 3-4)
Through various activities such as music, stories, role playing and props production, pre-starkids helps children to get prepared for the training of Starkids I, II and III.

Starkids I (For aged 4-6)
Using musical selections as foundation, Starkids I lets children access real stage performances and strengthen their ability and confidence in communication.

Starkids II (For aged 7-9)
Starkids II is the advanced course of musical program, by accumulating performance experience, train up members¡¦ performing and presentation skills.

Starkids III (For aged 10-15)
Starkids III is taught by two professional instructors, enhance members¡¦ skills in drama writing, acting, singing and dancing; nurture members¡¦ creativity, allow them to express personal ideas, and establish positive self-image!

Skywalkers (For aged 14 or above)
HKCMT¡¦s project-based teenage group, provides comprehensive stage training to members through practical experience in different positions such as performers, directors and playwrights, etc.
 

Care for Kids Scheme

As a non-profit making charity organization, Hong Kong Children¡¦s Musical Theatre has a mission to contribute the society through the education of art to children. Apart from providing theatre educational programs, we also stage various musical performances to bring out the awareness of caring children¡¦s future in our society.

In 2009, our annual performance The Musical Le Petit Prince, HKCMT accommodated over 800 children from deprived and underprivileged group to enjoy our performances through Care for Kids scheme with the generous support of commercial sectors and general public.
